Mom

Another photo of mom from her cousin, I'm so happy to get these pictures, we didn't have a copy of this. It is always neat to see the pictures others in the family have of your family.

School Days 1941-42

Recently my mom's first cousin sent me some pictures of the family which she thought I would like to have! I don't think I remember seeing this one of my mom, she would have been about 17 years old. Mom said that she made this dress.

Chickens!! Help!

I think this is one of my first memories. I remember being afraid of the chickens my grandparents had and I would run from them.
Granny to the rescue!

The Journey Back Through the Kelley Family

This morning on Facebook I saw that Bill Smith had used http://www.imagechef.com/ to add frames to some pictures. They were really cute so I decide to give it a try. Above is the one I made, this photo is of my Mom and Dad on their wedding day August 14,1953.  This is a cool site and easy to use.
This is a good place to start the journey back through the  Kelley Family. My Mom and Dad were married August 14,1953, they were married almost 48 years when my Dad died on August 2, 2001. They married at the  home of my Mom's brother. Only the family attended the Wedding. Mom's pastor married them and my Dad's pastor was his best man. Aunt Christian was Mom's maid of honor.

Sallie Farrell Ziegler

This photo of Sallie Ziegler was made sometime in the 1960's. This was made in her living room. I had several comments the last picture I posted of my Great Grandmother so I decided to tell a little more about her. She lived in Chattanooga with her daughter Christian Ziegler. As I remember they came to see my Grandparents almost every Sunday afternoon. People did lots of visiting back then, lots of people would come to visit my grandparents and we got to see them since we lived next door.
I have a couple of birthday cards which she sent to me when I was a small child, I need to find them and scan them. They always brought my brother and I a chocolate Easter Bunny. They came for Thanksgiving Dinner at my Grandparents house.
She told stories of her life, I just wish I could remember them all now. The one that I remember was that they moved to Oregon sometime in the late 1800's and my grandfather and his Dad were both sick by the time they got there. I remember asking her how they traveled and she said they went by train and it was so cold on the train "Johnny and Will" were sick.
My Great Aunt Lillie Mae (Harry's wife) recorded some of Grandma talking about her life, but I don't know what happened to the tapes. What a treasure that would be to have my Great Grandmother's voice recorded.
Her favorite TV show was Lawrence Welk! She didn't understand TV and so she thought if she could see the people on TV, then they could see her. So every Saturday evening she had to get dressed up and fix her hair to watch Lawrence Welk. She would get upset with her daughter because she didn't dress up for the show. She wanted to go to California and see Lawrence Welk and dance with him on the show.

First Car!

I was recently looking through a photo album from the late 1970's and found this picture, me with my first car!  It wasn't new, a 1968 Impala, but it was special. This car was given to me by my Uncle in California.
He drove the car from California to Tennessee and gave it to me. My Aunt had died and he had a truck and didn't need the car. He said that he wanted me to have it because I had done so much to help my Mom take care of my Grandparents. My Uncle always felt bad that he was so far away and couldn't help. It was a total surprise and totally not necessary. I LOVED my Grandparents and didn't feel I was doing anything special. I didn't even have my driver's license when he gave it to me. He called several times in the spring and each time he would ask if I had my license. I got busy and went to get my license shortly after getting the car.

Treasure Chest Thursday - Memories of My Grandparents!

Grannie and PaPa holding apples which my Mom, Dad and I brought back with us from California in August 1979. These apples were grown by my Uncle in his back yard. As I remember they were delicious. PaPa is also wearing a LA Dodgers hat which we got him. We didn't go to a game but I guess you can't go to LA and not buy a hat for a baseball fan. We didn't have cable back in 1979 but PaPa watched all the games that were on TV.

I have to say someone (can't remember which blog ) posted a picture and information on sidewalk pictures, I was going to link to their blog. If  you know who please leave a comment, I would love to link to the wonderful information they had.
This picture is my Grandmother, Hattie Wilson Ziegler, and her sister, they were shopping in downtown Chattanooga, Tn.
Here is the link to the wonderful story Sheri Fenley did on SIDEWALK PHOTOGRAPHERS.
Thanks Terri at The Ties That Bind for helping me out!

Happy Birthday!

John Huff Ziegler, born Feb. 3,1894 and died Nov. 14,1981. This picture is my Great Grandparents, Will and Sallie Ziegler with their sons John (on the left) and Hobart (held by his mother). John H. Ziegler was my Grandfather (PAPA) he was a man of few words, easy going (almost all of the time).

He and my Grandmother (Granny) married April 2,1916, they had two sons and one daughter (my mother).
This picture was made in April 1966 at their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Granny died in March 1981 about two weeks before their 65th wedding anniversary. He doesn't look too happy here, if I had to guess because he had to put on suit and get pictures made.

Treasure Chest Thursday

I'm very lucky to have this flour bag from the Ziegler Mill. I'm not sure who my Mom got this from, but she got one for herself, my brother and for me, her brother also got one and one for his daughter. I thought this was from Jacob Ziegler's Mill but my Mom told me this was from the Mill that belonged to Jacob's brother. When we were looking for the Ziegler house we found the brother's house and Mill which I think is where this bag came from. I've had this for many years but had not thought too much about it until recently when we found Jacob's house. The bag says Decatur, Tenn but the area where Jacob and his brother lived was is not in Decatur. Now I'm wondering why it says Decatur, maybe that was the largest city? Maybe the flour was sold in Decatur so they put Decatur on the bag? Or was there another Ziegler Mill??
