Summer Is Over

Officially fall starts on September 23; however, the unofficial end to summer is the start of school. The start of school here is today, August 11. Way! Way! too early for school to start. Children in school trying to study when it's still summer. The temperature this morning at 6 was 80 degrees and they are calling for a high of 99 this afternoon. Hope the AC  at school works!
Growing up we always started to school the Tuesday after Labor Day. Wonder what was wrong with that plan? When school starts there is a feeling of sadness the carefree fun days of summer are over and now school all day, homework, projects.
There is something to be said for getting back on schedule. We always seem to have a better schedule during the school year, getting up and going to bed, even eating meals on schedule.
Today is the first day of school but it is the first time in 15 years that I haven't taken my children to school on the first day. My daughter will start college (2nd year) on the 23 of August and my son is a senior in high school. He will be driving this year. Can my nerves take it!
Hopefully there will be more genealogy post here soon!

Oh My----kids do grow up, Harriet... It only seems like yesterday when my sons were in high school ... YET---they are 47, 40, and 39 now.... Yipes!!!!!

I wonder why schools around here start so early also. Seems like they waste so many days up here in Cumberland County. They go to school MANY days for a couple of hours and call it a whole day... GADS---are our kids learning anything these days?????

Hugs,
Betsy

We still start after Labor Day but on the other side of that we do not finish until the end of June. I would love to see a switch to a year round school year with some two and three week breaks thrown in. My grandkids are bored and ready to go back now.
