Sallie Farrell Ziegler

This photo of Sallie Ziegler was made sometime in the 1960's. This was made in her living room. I had several comments the last picture I posted of my Great Grandmother so I decided to tell a little more about her. She lived in Chattanooga with her daughter Christian Ziegler. As I remember they came to see my Grandparents almost every Sunday afternoon. People did lots of visiting back then, lots of people would come to visit my grandparents and we got to see them since we lived next door.
I have a couple of birthday cards which she sent to me when I was a small child, I need to find them and scan them. They always brought my brother and I a chocolate Easter Bunny. They came for Thanksgiving Dinner at my Grandparents house.
She told stories of her life, I just wish I could remember them all now. The one that I remember was that they moved to Oregon sometime in the late 1800's and my grandfather and his Dad were both sick by the time they got there. I remember asking her how they traveled and she said they went by train and it was so cold on the train "Johnny and Will" were sick.
My Great Aunt Lillie Mae (Harry's wife) recorded some of Grandma talking about her life, but I don't know what happened to the tapes. What a treasure that would be to have my Great Grandmother's voice recorded.
Her favorite TV show was Lawrence Welk! She didn't understand TV and so she thought if she could see the people on TV, then they could see her. So every Saturday evening she had to get dressed up and fix her hair to watch Lawrence Welk. She would get upset with her daughter because she didn't dress up for the show. She wanted to go to California and see Lawrence Welk and dance with him on the show.

OH what a cute post, Harriet... I loved it---and laughed outloud at the Lawrence Welk part. My sweet mother (born in 1900) also LOVED Lawrence Welk... I don't think she dressed up for it though--but she never missed it...

Wish you could find those tapes of your Great Grandmother's stories... That would be so neat...

Glad you knew her... What a neat little lady.
Hugs,
Betsy

I love thinking about the memories of Grandma. She was a neat lady. I'm not sure I knew at the time how special it was to know your Great Grandmother.
