Eliza Jane Howard Green

We finally made it over to the cemetery that is about a mile from our house!

Eliza Jane Howard Green is my husband's Great Great Grandmother. My husband got her name from his aunt a couple of years ago. When I started trying to find some information on Eliza Jane Howard Green and husband Levi Green I discovered they lived in the same area we live in!

Eliza Jane Howard was from McMinn and Meigs Co area. She married Levi Green they lived in McMinn, Meigs and Hamilton counties. Their son William L. Green was my husband's Great Grandfather.

Eliza Jane Green died July 11, 1941 she was 91 years old. She is buried in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The Hamilton County Genealogical Society http://www.hctgs.org/default.htm has a wonderful website. I typed in Eliza Jane Green and found a Eliza Jane Howard Green buried in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. What a surprise to find one so close to home. I guess sometimes it is the ones that are close that we just don't take the time to check out. It took us 2 years to make it to the cemetery!

We were very lucky to find her grave since you can hardly read the marker. She is buried near her son James J. Green and his marker was much easier to read so that was our starting point. She was buried near so we didn't have to look for long. We were disappointed that it was so hard to read and the picture didn't turn out very clear. Eliza Jane Green's husband Levi Green is buried in another cemetery about 5 miles from here. There is no marker on the grave.

Hey Harriett-- I went to college in McMinn County from 1960-94... I was at Tennessee Wesleyan College. Ever been there???? I married while there---and after graduating we lived in Sweetwater for awhile before moving to Knoxville.

That is such a pretty area all around there... I sang in the college choir and we went to almost every town in that area of TN... Great memories.

Small world, isn't it???? Glad you found some new info..
Hugs,
Betsy

Thanks for stopping by Betsy! McMinn County is a beautiful area.
My husband and I both have ancestors from the McMinn County area and we have gone several times to cemeteries up there. We also spent the day searching for the home place of my Great Great Grandparents, Jacob and Annabelle Ziegler. We never found it but hope to go back this summer to look again.
