Treasure Chest Thursday
I'm very lucky to have this flour bag from the Ziegler Mill. I'm not sure who my Mom got this from, but she got one for herself, my brother and for me, her brother also got one and one for his daughter. I thought this was from Jacob Ziegler's Mill but my Mom told me this was from the Mill that belonged to Jacob's brother. When we were looking for the Ziegler house we found the brother's house and Mill which I think is where this bag came from. I've had this for many years but had not thought too much about it until recently when we found Jacob's house. The bag says Decatur, Tenn but the area where Jacob and his brother lived was is not in Decatur. Now I'm wondering why it says Decatur, maybe that was the largest city? Maybe the flour was sold in Decatur so they put Decatur on the bag? Or was there another Ziegler Mill??

Oh Harriett! I love this! Two different branches of my family owned mills in Ohio. What a wonderful keepsake for you to have. Thanks for sharing! :)
Harriett, I noticed the family name Newby on your sidebar, funny I hadn't noticed it before. I have a cousin in my family group who is a Newby by marriage - wonder if there is a connection? Nancy Newby is related to me through my Habben family.
Interesting... I love how you make different connections to things.
My mother in law's family were Newby! I wonder if you are related. I haven't done much research on my husband's side of the family yet.
I have millers in my family and my husbands, too. How cool is it to have a bag with the the name on it. Nice find.
A terrific treasure!
Neat that you have the flour bag, Harriet. I wouldn't care where it came from ... It's a Ziegler bag --and that is special....
Hope we get snow tomorrow and not ICE....
Hugs,
Betsy
Thanks everyone for stopping by and leaving comments! This is a VERY special treasure!
Terri and Alice, I would love it if your Newby's were related! My Grandmother's maiden name was Newby. We have gone back to her Grandfather, King H. Newby. He lived in Tennessee and North Alabama, before him we don't know. We think he died in 1889 but are not sure. We have hit a brick wall at this point. I would love to find more Newby's out there related.I will be doing the Featured Family on the Newby's soon.
I checked on Together We Save and this is a really cool blog! Thanks for stopping by.
Oh, this is so awesome! Jacob is my 4th great grandfather. I haven't done much research on the mill yet...i need to do that!
